The programme is not communicated in advance since Roby Lakatos reacts instantly to the atmosphere of the places in which it takes place.
Roby Lakatos is the direct descendant of seven generations of the famous Hungarian gypsy violinist János Bihari. Complete musician, versatile violinist, fascinating magician, he passes with a disconcerting ease from the classical repertoire, to gypsy, to jazz improvisation. Performer, arranger, composer, his virtuosity explodes in the universality of musical languages.
Roby Lakatos comes from a legendary gypsy family lineage. His ancestor János Bihari was one of the founding fathers of gypsy instrumental music and inspired composers such as Liszt and Brahms. Roby was introduced to the secrets of gypsy music by his father Tony and his uncle Sándor Lakatos at the age of five. He learns this whole repertoire by ear and by heart, immersed in the tradition of playing and ornamentation and was formed in the orchestras where his father and uncle played. He completed his classical training by studying repertoire at the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest, where he received the first prize in 1984. This double formation between popular and learned music predisposes him to play with ease and virtuosity all kinds of music in a unique and inspired style.
Thanks to this eclecticism, he has been able to perform with musicians such as Vadim Repin, Biréli Lagrène, Herbie Hancock, Rhoda Scott, Stochelo Rosenberg, Stéphane Grappelli, etc.
