In November at the Foundation

Raymond Queneau undertook the task of drawing up lists of books to be include in a library. The writer Alberto Manguel writes a story of reading, which not only “has the faculty of abolishing time and crossing epochs: it also has the power to make us feel more human, that is, to say less wild and more in harmony with humanity. Do we question what we read, what we should read, what we remember, and ultimately, how useful it is? ThalieLab which constitutes its library, invites curators, collectors, designers, writers, publishers, … to come to tell their reports to the books, and to propose their list which will be included in the library of the Foundation. 

Author, videast, Valérie Mréjen explores the various possibilities of language. She publishes artist’s books before making her first videos. Her works have been the subject of numerous exhibitions in France and abroad, including at the Jeu de Paume in 2008. She has directed several short films, documentaries (Pork and Milk, 2004, Valvert, 2008) and a fictional feature-length film, En ville, co-directed with Bertrand Schefer and selected by the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in 2011. Associated with the TNB of Rennes, she created an adaptation of La Dame aux camélias directed by Arthur Nauzyciel and is preparing a forthcoming production with Albin de la Simone after Le Carnaval des animaux by Saint-Saëns.

The literary encounter will be followed by a dedication of her last book, Troisième personne (P.O.L, 2017).

Le Roman Algérien is a film in three chapters that sheds light on the complex relationship of a nation to its history and the role of images in the construction of its national novel and archetypes.
The work of Katia Kameli unfolds through various media such as photography, film or installation. Her artistic focus is in the field of history, human and social sciences. Katia Kameli’s works have been shown in solo exhibitions at CCA Glasgow (2017), The Mosaic Rooms, London (2016); Taymour Grahne Gallery, New York (2014). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions: Dakar Biennale (2018), Biennale für aktuelle fotografie, Mannheim (2017); Pompidou Center, Paris (2016); Mucem, Marseille (2016); Havre Magasinet, Sweden (2015); Marrakech Biennale (2012) etc.

A solo exhibition of Katia Kameli is currently on view at the Centre Régional de la Photographie des Hauts-de-France through 25 November 2018.

Clément Dirié is a historian, curator, art critic and editorial director of JRP | Ringier editions.

ThalieLab invites a philosopher to discuss a news topic, analysed through the lens of his or her research in order to bring a new perspective to the media speech.

Law and philosophy have never ceased to dance a wary tango, regarding each other as enemies to be conquered. In inventing the idea of law, Greek philosophy enacted a decisive gesture to provide for the law – but it is a gesture whose violence has not yet been sufficiently considered.

Laurent de Sutter is Professor of Law Theory at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. His work focuses on the cultural history of law, in particular the link between law and transgression in the history of European legal culture. He is the author of many books, which have been translated into a dozen languages – including L’âge de l’anesthésie (Les Liens Qui Libèrent, 2017), Après la loi (Puf, 2018) and Pornographie du contemporain (La Lettre Volée, 2018).

The encounter will be followed by a dedication of his last book Après la loi (Puf, 2018).

ThalieLab enlarges the experiences and invites an artist with a practice related to food to invest the kitchen to create a unique and innovative menu, inviting the participants to discover some new flavours.

As an artist and chef, Grégoire Bergeret offers us an exploration of production methods related to food: the act of smoking, salting, drying, fermenting, revisiting these many gestures rooted in ancestral traditions and inspired by the Land of the Rising Sun.

Marie Hallynck (cello)
A well-established soloist, chamber musician and passionate teacher of music, Marie Hallynck is one of the key cellists of her generation. Her career has taken her to such prestigious venues as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Vienna Musikverein, Wigmore Hall in London, the Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, la Cité de la Musique Paris, etc. She has received various awards including: prizes at the celebrated Eurovision classical music competition and the Tromp competition (Eindhoven) in 1992, honorary diplomas from the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Accademia Chigiana of Siena and the Belgian Fondation de la Vocation Prize in 1993.

Sophie Hallynck (harp)
After graduating from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, she returned to Belgium, where studied with Francette Bartholomée at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, graduating with highest honours in harp and chamber music. She regularly performs as a soloist with various orchestras such as the orchestra of the St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Conservatory of Music Orchestra, the Royal Opera of Wallonia, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège et la Communauté française de Belgique. She currently teaches harp and chamber music at two Belgian universities: the IMEP in Namur and the Hogeschool Antwerpen.
