Un café face aux oeuvres : A unique display

The Fondation Thalie offers a unique series of cross-referenced stories between the works of its collection. For one morning, A coffee in front of artworks, through a unique display of works, invites you to rub shoulders with the great and small history of art, and to discover the secrets of singular and little-known practices. A sensitive experience designed to reveal invisible relationships, and to give free rein to the interpretation, in a small group of enthusiasts.

Content:

For this second edition of A coffee in front of artworks, we will enjoy a unique display of some twenty pieces of art from the Fondation Thalie’s collection. Among them will be Alma Allen (United States, 1970), Lynda Benglis (United States, 1941), Benoît Plateus (Belgium, 1970), Kiki Smith (Germany, 1954), Farah Atassi (Belgium, 1981), Lionel Estève (France, 1967), Kazunori Hamana (Japan, 1969) and many others.

  • A collective interpretation will help to identify certain characteristics of the Foundation’s collection.
  • Some works will then be discussed in greater depth and contextualised in the broad field of art history. We will look at automatic writing by the Surrealists and at the importance of materials in the Antiform movement.

Objectives:

  • To (re)discover artists from the Foundation’s collection. So much beauty and so many potential journeys are waiting to be discovered.
  • To take part in a mediation based on exchange and dialogue.
  • To attempt to answer the following question together: in what way is this display representative of the collection’s identity?
  • To look at certain aspects of art history using concrete examples.

The event is led by  Valère GILLES who is in charge of mediation at the Fondation Thalie.
